2 National Retailers Closing Locations In Westbrook — Clearance Sales Going On Now

Two well-known clothing stores will close permanently this month. But there's also some good news for the outlet mall.

WESTBROOK, CT — Two more stores are closing at Westbrook Outlets. H&M's last day will be Jan. 18, and J Crew's last day will be Jan. 20.

J Crew is "offering amazing deals to clear their inventory prior to closing," according to Charlie Guthrie, general manager for Westbrook Outlets.

H&M, which has been open at the outlet mall since 2018, is also offering discounts. Sales up to 70% storewide are going on at both J Crew and H&M.

H&M Media Relations confirmed the closing. "Assessing and reviewing our store portfolio to adapt to changing customer behavior is something that we have done ever since we opened our first store," the company said in a statement.

The news comes as plans to demolish the outlet mall to make way for a huge mixed-use project are progressing.

The $425 million development was first revealed in 2024. It's anticipated to include 595 apartments, 100 townhomes, a new hotel, restaurants, and entertainment space.

However, Guthrie said the "permit process for our redevelopment is slowly moving forward but we have a long way to go." The outlets are planning for continued operations through at least fall of this year.

To that end, two short-term tenants will be coming to the outlet mall in February and March. Guthrie said more details will be available when once agreements for the tenants are executed.
