Bar Closes, Other Tenants On The Move At Westbrook Outlets

A bar has closed its doors and two other shops have expiring leases. However, a new pop-up has been announced for the outlet mall.

WESTBROOK, CT — A bar has closed and leases for two shops are expiring at Westbrook Outlets.

But on the plus side, an artsy pop-up will be coming to the outlets starting in March and an existing tenant is planning on expanding their storefront.

Tapville closed at the end of its lease Aug. 30, according to Charlie Guthrie, general manager for Westbrook Outlets. The owner has other restaurant investments in the Danbury area as well as mobile beverage and food trucks. Tapville, a craft beer bar, also has locations in seven other states.

Old Navy's lease at Westbrook Outlets expires Feb. 28 as the clothing company will open a store at Guilford Commons in March, Guthrie said. Old Navy still lists 18 locations in Connecticut, according to its website.

A new pop-up tenant will be coming to the outlets in March. Shoreline Arts Alliances plans to host multiple activities and exhibits during their stay, Guthrie said. Another existing tenant will renovate its storefront, though Guthrie said details on that are not yet available.

In October, a Pepperidge Farm store closed at the outlets.

The outlets' site is expected to undergo big changes in the future. Earlier this year, a developer pitched a massive, $425 million development with 595 apartments, 100 townhomes, a new hotel, restaurants, and entertainment space.

Lexington Partners is behind the project for the nearly 50-acre site at 314 Flat Rock Place with construction possibly beginning next year.

Guthrie said they are following the permit approval process and working to complete requests made by the state Department of Environmental and Energy Protection.

He said that the outlets will continue operations into "the later part of 2025" and that there will be a festival and activity schedule released soon.

Westbrook Outlets' website lists 13 other stores in operation like H&M, Old Tyme Toys, and Westbrook Cinemas.
