Brewery's Satellite Location Set To Close In Old Saybrook

The second location of a popular Branford brewery is closing as "the building we are in has presented challenges..."

OLD SAYBROOK, CT — Less than a year after opening, Thimble Island Brewing Company announced it will be closing its Old Saybrook location. The last day of business will be Saturday.

Thimble Island Brewing Company posted the following on Facebook:

"With heavy hearts we are sorry to announce that our Old Saybrook satellite location will be closing. Our last day will be Saturday, January 18th, 2025. We absolutely love the Old Saybrook community, but the building we are in has presented challenges that have impacted on our service quality. We’ll be on the hunt for new opportunities, but until then we hope you will come visit us in our flagship location in Branford. Many thanks to all of our loyal customers for your support throughout this journey!"

Thimble Island opened the second location in May in the former Denali building downtown at 75 Main St., previously home to Gargano Pasta & Italian Market.

The brewery has a full kitchen, craft beers, wines, hard sodas, and seltzers with its restaurant, bar, and brewing area occupying the 4,000-square-foot first floor. The 3,000-square-foot basement is dedicated to prep work and catering.

Thimble Island was founded in 2010 by Justin Gargano and Mike Fawcett. In 2020, the establishment expanded its taproom into a full-service restaurant. They offer 30 rotating draft lines with a variety of specialty and seasonal beers.
