Clinton Police Therapy Dog Making An Impact In Town, Fundraiser Launched To Support Work
Clinton Police have launched a fundraiser with a local nonprofit to support one of its K-9s.
CLINTON, CT β K-9 Jagger of the Clinton Police Department is making an impact within the town's public schools, and a fundraiser has been launched to help support his ongoing work.
Patch and T-Mobile are spotlighting local EMTs, firefighters and police officers who are making a difference or have made a difference in their communities.
Police in Clinton have launched a fundraiser through Cheshire-based nonprofit The Hometown Foundation to support Jagger, who was previously seized by the State of Connecticut through an animal cruelty investigation a few years ago.
He has recovered and is now a certified therapy dog within Clinton Public Schools with his handler School Resource Officer Brian Corbin.
"He's just making an incredible impact in the schools. He's what I call a 'happy distraction,'" Corbin said of Jagger in a recent interview with WFSB 3. "He's really a great tool and he's been a great asset to the PD."
Jagger, a German Shepherd, also helps support police in initiatives such as officer wellness, peer support, community policing and victim services.
But his work comes with a cost, so a fundraiser was created to make sure Jagger continues to make a positive impact on the community.
"There are many costs associated with a K-9 such as food, training, equipment, and veterinarian costs. K-9 Jagger's program is funded solely through private donations, and we are calling on the Clinton community to help support a team that provides such happiness, comfort, and care to the local children," a description on The Hometown Foundation's website says.
There is a goal to raise $2,500 yearly.
The Hometown Foundation raises money to support a broad range of programs that meet community needs. The nonprofit focused on animal welfare, emergency response personnel, individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, major illness or those in need, and the military.
