CT State Trooper Suspended After Clinton Multi-Injury Crash [UPDATE]
A state police trooper has been suspended from duty and is facing charges in connection to a serious accident last year.

CLINTON, CT β A state police trooper has been suspended in connection to a crash Christmas day in Clinton, according to WTNH News-8. Trooper Daniel Barrera had his police power suspended and was placed on paid leave.
Barrera was on duty and responding to a call when the accident occurred. He went through two red lights and didn't slow down at an intersection, leading to the roll-over crash, CT Insider reported.
Clinton police responded around 6 p.m. on Dec. 25 to a report of a crash at the intersection of West Main Street and Hull Street in Clinton. Barrera was driving down West Main Street when his vehicle collided with a Toyota Rav4, WTNH News-8 reported.

The Rav4's two occupants suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle, which flipped over in the accident, according to CT Insider. Barrera was also hospitalized.
Barrera was charged Monday with reckless driving Monday, stripped of his police powers, and put on paid administrative leave.

Barrera had been responding to a report of a possible suicidal person in Durham when the accident occurred. He was driving 47 mph in a 25 mph zone, according to CT Insider.
Barrera had served as a trooper for about 18 months when the crash happened. After his release from the hospital, he was back on duty during the investigation, CT Insider reported.
The Mid-State Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the crash.
