DUI Driver Strikes Police Cruiser On I-95 In Westbrook: State Police

A trooper was injured after an impaired driver hit a police cruiser performing a traffic stop, according to state police.

WESTBROOK, CT — A New London man is accused of striking a police cruiser resulting in injuries on I-95 in Westbrook, according to state police.

A trooper began a traffic stop on the northbound side of the highway near exit 65 at 8:05 p.m. Wednesday.

The trooper was in the right lane with emergency lights on when the cruiser's rear was struck by a 2014 GMC Terrain.

Alvaro Portillo, 32, of New London was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, following too closely resulting in a motor vehicle accident, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and failure to slow down/move over. Bond was set at $15,000.

The trooper suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
