Saturday, June 1, marks the beginning of hurricane season and theΒ National Hurricane CenterΒ wants you to be prepared.Β
Here in the Northeast we've had two major storms in the last few yearsΒ that started out as hurricanes βΒ Irene and Sandy βΒ and it's that time again for us to start thinking about how to be ready for the next big blow.Β
This week marks theΒ National Hurricane Center's Hurricane Preparedness WeekΒ and the agency has several informative guides on its website aboutΒ hurricanes, how to get ready for a hurricane and special precautions for mariners.Β
Lack of preparation before a big storm, the center says on its site, is a common problem in hurricane season.Β
"History teaches that a lack of hurricane awareness and preparation are common threads among all major hurricane disasters. By knowing your vulnerability and what actions you should take, you can reduce the effects of a hurricane disaster."
On its "Be Ready" pageΒ the center has numerous tips and resources on how you canΒ prepare for a hurricaneΒ and how to recover after one.
