Motorist Late For Thomas The Train Ride Drives 102MPH: Police

A driver stopped for speeding on I-95 with a child in the car told police she was running late to a "Thomas the Train" event: State Police.

CLINTON, CT — A New York woman accused of driving 102 miles per hour on I-95 in Clinton told police she was running late for a “Thomas the Train” event in Essex, according to state police.

Danielle DaSilva, 37, of Brooklyn, was charged Sunday with reckless driving, risk of injury to a minor, second-degree reckless endangerment, and failure to stop on the right side of the road.

State police saw a dark colored SUV traveling at a high rate of speed in the left lane of I-95 north on Sunday around 8:32 a.m., according to police.

Police clocked the vehicle’s speed at 102 miles per hour, police said. Troopers pulled DaSilva’s vehicle over, and she stopped in the center median, police said.

“DaSilva explained that she was speeding because she was running late to a ‘Thomas the Train’ event in Essex,” police said, in a press release.

The Essex Steam Train has a special event when families can ride a train which looks like the beloved Thomas the Train character.

DaSilva was traveling with an adult male passenger, and there was a two-year-old juvenile in the back seat, according to police.

DaSilva is due to appear in Superior Court in Middletown on May 16.
