The Opera Theater of Connecticut Carries On Its Clinton Traditions
"Wine, Women and Song," a beloved local tradition, returns after a pandemic hiatus, and "Hansel and Gretel" returns by popular demand.
CLINTON, CT β Since 1986, The Opera Theater of Connecticut in Clinton has been presenting high quality productions at affordable prices, and these have helped the town develop its reputation as an arts conclave on the Sound.
The theater's 2023 season will kick off on June 25 with its Spring Gala Concert, "Wine, Women and Song," a beloved local tradition in its own right, returning after a pandemic hiatus. The popular event is a concert of arias, duets and ensembles dedicated to the appreciation of wine and music, combined with a wine tasting. Tickets are available online here.
Rossini's opera "The Italian Girl in Algiers" will be presented August 10, 12 and 13 at the Andrews Memorial Theater at 54 East Main Street in Clinton. Sung in Italian, with English supertitles, the boisterous Turkish harem hijinks two-act'er is one of the most beloved comic operas. Tickets are available online here.

The Opera Theater of Connecticut continues a new tradition in Clinton with its production of Humperdinck's "Hansel and Gretel." Sung in English, accompanied by piano and featuring a childrenβs chorus and dancing angels, the beloved opera has been abridged to run approximately one hour and fifteen minutes, including intermission. The Opera Theater of Connecticut will again be collaborating with The Shoreline Theater Academy/Kidz Konnection, whose young singers will be featured as the "Gingerbread children" and whose dancers appear as the angels.
