Outlet Mall To Be Demolished As Massive Development Moves Forward
Plans are progressing to demolish an outlet mall and construct a huge mixed-use development, according to a report.
WESTBROOK, CT β A sprawling mixed-use project is moving forward with plans calling for the demolition of Westbrook Outlets in 2026, according to Hearst Connecticut Media.
But before demolition can begin, developers need approval from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection for a septic system large enough for the development.
The $425 million development was first revealed in 2024. It's anticipated to include 595 apartments, 100 townhomes, a new hotel, restaurants, and entertainment space.

Lexington Partners is pitching the project for the nearly 50-acre site at 314 Flat Rock Place in Westbrook.
A representative of the developer told Hearst that they've made "significant progress" on the state signing off on the new septic system. He's "optimistic" that demolition will be in 2026 with construction beginning in early 2027. (Read the full story at Hearst Connecticut Media.)

Currently, less than a quarter of the spaces at Westbrook Outlets are occupied. HanesBrand, Williams & Sonoma, and Old Navy all closed stores there this year. A bar, Tapville, and Pepperidge Farm are among those that shuttered in 2024.
It's unclear how much longer the outlet stores will remain open.
