Police Identify Victim of Fatal Fire in Clinton

Clinton firefighters responded to a fire at a Killingworth Turnpike home Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016.

The Clinton Fire Department responded to 229 Killingworth Turnpike lot #57 for a report of structure fire at approximately 7:57 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 28.

β€œUpon arrival, fire units found the home engulfed in flames,” according to a written statement by Sgt. Jeremiah F. Dunn of the Clinton Police Department. β€œShortly after arriving on scene, fire personnel entered the burning home and located the unconscious body of an elderly man on the floor inside the home. Firefighters removed the man from the home and initiated CPR in an attempt to resuscitate the victim. The victim was transported to the Shoreline Clinic is Westbrook where he was later pronounced dead. The fire was fully extinguished a short time later.”

Police identified the victim as Robert Sliby, 85, the sole resident of the home. Sliby’s dog also perished as a result of the fire, Dunn said.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by members of the State Fire Marshal’s office, as well as the Clinton Fire Marshal’s office and Clinton Police Department.
