Sandra Macknis Obituary: Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven

Sandra (Yorks) Macknis, 89 of East Haven and North Branford passed away September 6, 2025 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born November 27, 1935 in New Haven to Kenneth and Gertrude (Gavette) Yorks. Sandra is survived by her two daughters; Jeanne Rapuano (Mark) of Clinton CT and Cynthia Jabaut (David) of East Haven along with two grandsons; Michael Rapuano and Tyler Jabaut. She is also survived by her siblings; Marcia Thomas (Ralph) of Northford, Judith Shields (Phillip) of Clearwater, FL and Mardella “Della” Lamoureux (Joseph) of Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joseph Macknis (1988), a son, Stephen Macknis and a sister, Virginia “Ginger” Yorks.

She worked as a bank teller for many years and was an avid reader who loved crossword puzzles, playing cards, bingo and watching Hallmark Christmas movies. She also enjoyed spending time with family. She was involved in the East Haven Seniors and the Annex Jolly Timers Seniors.

The Macknis family would like to thank the staff at Montowese Health and Rehabilitation and the step down unit and Yale east pavilion 7-5 nursing staff for their care and compassion to our mom.

Family will receive friends on Friday September 12, 2025 from 10 AM until the time of service at 12 PM (NOON) in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home) 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven with Committal to follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford.
