SCORE is a resource partner of the SBA, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and has more than 13,000 volunteers in 380 chapters nationwide. The southeastern Connecticut SCORE chapter office is located in the Old Saybrook Chamber of Commerce building, and its volunteers provide free business mentoring each month in Guilford, Madison, Old Saybrook, Middletown, Waterford, and Norwich.
“We’re launching our fall new member recruitment campaign,” noted Potter, “and are looking for men and women in southeastern Connecticut with a variety of business backgrounds and skills who would like to share their knowledge to help people start up or improve their small businesses.”
“What l like most about being a SCORE volunteer,” said Potter, “is the opportunity it provides to give back to your community, passing on your business knowledge and expertise to help the next generation of entrepreneurs succeed. SCORE is in the business of helping make dreams come true.”
“Last year, we helped nearly 400 clients in southeastern Connecticut. SCORE also provides free year-round small business workshops, many sponsored by regional banks. Subjects include how to write a business plan, managing small business finances, using QuickBooks, online and social media marketing, how to get a small business bank loan, and more.”
“For many of our SCORE volunteers, the attraction is keeping their hands in the business world without having to worry about the 9-to-5 routine. For members who have recently retired and miss being in a business environment, SCORE provides them with a great way to share their business knowledge and experience with others. It’s fun and very rewarding.”
