Alert Witnesses Grab Keys

Danbury Police responded to a burglary in progress call at about 5:45 p.m. Friday at 27 Main St. Police said the caller told them he heard his roommate screaming his name and struggling with a man who broke in. The suspect, who was later identified as Garry Gagnon, 52, kicked in the door to the house. The men forced him out of the house and called police. Police did not find Gagnon in the area during a search. About an hour later, police said Gagnon returned to the area and the men saw him in the driveway. Gagnon chased the men back into the house with a rock. Police said Gagnon then broke a car window and tried to get into the car. Police arrived and took Gagnon into custody. Gagnon was charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree threatening, criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny and tampering with a motor vehicle. Gagnon was held on a $10,000 bond.

Police were called to 38 George St. for a motor vehicle accident at about 12:15 a.m. Monday. Police said a person saw Franco Salinas, 38, of Danbury, back into another car. Salinas then tried to drive away, but the witness pulled the keys out of his car. Police said Salinas then got out of the car and tried to bribe the witness into letting him go. When the police arrived, Salinas told the police he wasn’t driving. His friend was driving and he left. Police charged Salinas with driving under the influence, operating a motor vehicle without a license, unsafe backing and interfering with a police officer. Salinas was released on a $1,000 bond, and is expected to answer the charges in Danbury Superior Court on June 27.

Danbury Police responded to a motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of Food Bag on Main Street at about 10 p.m. Sunday. Police said Manuel Arevalo, 28, of Danbury had an accident and tried to drive away. A witness pulled the keys from his car and prevented him leaving. Police charged Arevalo with driving while intoxicated, evading a motor vehicle accident, unsafe backing and driving without a license. Arevalo was released on a $1,000 bond with a court date of June 27 to respond to the charges.
