DANBURY, CT — Joseph W. Britton, a two-term Danbury City Councilman and attorney for the City of Waterbury, has been commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps.

Britton, 29, was sworn in during a private ceremony on July 30 by Danbury Mayor Roberto Alves. Family members attended the event.

In addition to his role on the City Council, Britton previously served on the Danbury Board of Education and currently works as Board of Education attorney for Waterbury's Office of the Corporation Counsel. He is scheduled to report next month to Fort Benning, Georgia, for the Direct Commission Officer Course.

“Being commissioned in the Army JAG Corps is one of the greatest honors of my life,” Britton said. He added that his family’s immigrant background and their pursuit of the American dream were strong motivations for pursuing public and military service. “Service is the least I can do to honor their sacrifices and the promise of this nation.”

Britton said he sees his new military role as an extension of his ongoing commitment to public service. “Whether serving on the Danbury City Council, advocating for students on the Board of Education, or representing the City of Waterbury, my focus has always been on helping others,” he said. “This new role allows me to carry that mission forward on a broader scale.”
