DANBURY, CT — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Andrea Gartner, who nominated Danbury's Sandy Sanchez, and volunteers alongside her.

"Sandy has faced the challenges of the pandemic with grace while still doing good in the world," Andrea wrote. "She has been hit by the consequences of COVID-19 on all sides: She works in education, is a single mom to a 9-year-old boy, and her mother's cancer is back."

Despite her personal pandemic challenges, Sandy still found the time and energy to create a Facebook page as a place for people to get information and encouragement. It Takes A Village: COVID19 Danbury Outreach has nearly 4,500 followers and has truly become a community asset.
