Danbury Man Impaled By Grill After Falling Off Roof

The man was rushed to the hospital with the metal post still in his chest.

DANBURY, CT — A man is in critical condition after he fell off a roof and was impaled by a large piece of metal, according to the Danbury Police and Fire Departments . The man was impaled on a large metal post that was a support beam for a large grill at approximately 9:26 a.m Tuesday morning.

First responders used a metal cutting saw to cut the object from the stand, and the victim was rushed to Danbury Hospital with the post still in his chest. Danbury Fire Department spokesperson Jamie Gagliardo said the man was in critical condition. Det. Lt. Christian Carroccio of the Danbury Police Department said he was advised that the man was awake when he was being transported.

"You have to transport him with the post in his chest or you could cause further damage," Gagliardo told Patch.

The man fell approximately 10 feet from the roof of the Casa Do Benfica Soccer and Social Club on Federal Road. OSHA is investigating the incident. Gagliardo said the department believes the man was a member of the club, but they are not yet sure what he was doing on the roof.
