Danbury Police: DUI, DUI, DUI, Joy-Riding Ambulance

Danbury police charged three men with driving under the influence.

Danbury Police stopped Victor Omar Fontanez, 23, of Danbury, on Liberty Street at 1:51 a.m. Monday, where he failed a field sobriety test. Police charged him with driving under the influence, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and failure to obey a traffic control signal. Fontanez was released on a $1,500 bond for an appearance in Danbury Superior Court on May 2.

Danbury Police charged Philip Smith, 37, of Brooklyn, NY, with driving under the influence, failure to drive right and operating a motor vehicle without a license after police investigated reports that a car hit a parked car and a building on Liberty Street at 3:35 a.m. Sunday. Smith was held on a $5,000 bond.

Danbury Police stopped Angel Guzman, 27, of Danbury, Friday after police saw him make a right turn on red at an intersection clearly marked with no turn on red. Police charged Guzman with the illegal turn, and then charged him with driving under the influence, driving without insurance, and driving without a driver's license. Guzman was held on a $2,500 bond.

Danbury Police charged an Oxford man with interfering with EMS after receiving a report the man had driven an ambulance from a medical scene on Sand Pit Road Friday at 8:13 p.m. Police said the medics were in the back of the ambulance treating a patient when an unknown person climbed in the front and drove the ambulance about 50 feet down the road. The medics got the license plate from the man after he got out and climbed into a car. Police found the man, Peter Prunty, 52, of Oxford, and charged him with interfering with EMS. He was held on a $500 bond.
