Danbury Woman Fled Traffic Stop Before Crash: Police

Police say the woman nearly struck an officer after speeding away from a traffic stop.

DANBURY, CT — A city woman was arrested last week after police said she drove away from an officer who stopped her on Lake Ave. Police said they stopped a car that nearly struck a patrol vehicle and ran a red light at 10:49 p.m. Friday, and stopped Bianca Marie Cruz, 21, shortly thereafter.

Police said the officer smelled marijuana coming from Cruz's vehicle, and said that she accelerated away from the stop, nearly striking the officer. Another officer saw Cruz pass him in the opposite direction, and crash at the intersection of Merrimac St. and Lake Avenue.
