The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection issued an 'Air Quality Alert' for Wednesday and storms are possible later in the week.

Danbury, CT — Well it’s definitely a heat wave at least for the next two days as temperatures will exceed 90 degrees on both Wednesday and Thursday.

And because of that the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has issued an “Air Quality Alert” for all of southern Connecticut including Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties.

The air quality alert is in effect from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. Wednesday.

This means that ground level ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards, according to the National Weather Service.

And because the sweltering temps have arrived it also means days of potentially unpredictable weather.
We could see thunderstorms for a three-day period beginning on Thursday and continuing through Saturday night. Again, with the prediction of thunderstorms some people will see them and some won’t get anything.
And the chance for showers and thunderstorms is roughly 50 percent each day, so definitely not a given that we’ll all see anything.

Here is the latest update via the National Weather Service on the potentially severe weather:

Wednesday: Sunny and temps around 92 degrees.
Wednesday night: Warm, temps only back to 72 degrees.
Thursday: Chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. High temps around 93 degrees.
Thursday night: Mostly cloudy with some showers and thunderstorms possible.
Friday: Another chance of showers and thunderstorms but high temps will be back into the mid 80s. Technically, the heat wave ends on Friday, but the storm chances remain.
Friday night: More chances for showers and thunderstorms.
Saturday: Temps only in the upper 70s but the chance for showers and thunderstorms continues up until midnight.
