Immaculate High School was on Lockdown Due to Suicidal Person in Area

Immaculate High School was put on lockdown Tuesday morning due to a suicidal person near the school.

DANBURY, CT — Due to a suicidal person in the area, Immaculate High School was put on lockdown Tuesday morning, according to St. Mary School Principal Greg Viceroy. The lockdown occurred at approximately 8 a.m., but was over by 8:40 a.m., Viceroy said.

Immaculate High School is a private Catholic High School located at across from Tarrywile Park and Mansion at 73 Southern Blvd. in Danbury. It serves high school students in the Bethel, Newtown Ridgefield, Brookfield and Danbury area, as well as surrounding towns.

Det. Lt. Christian A. Carroccio of the Danbury Police Department said they received a phone call from a concerned caller about a Facebook post from a adult male who lived on Garfield Avenue in Danbury. The post indicated that the male was suicidal and may have a rifle, Carroccio said. Upon arrival, officers located the male in the backyard alone with the rifle pointed at his head, established a perimeter and as a precaution Immaculate High School and Pope John Paul Center were placed on lock-down, police said.

Danbury Police Emergency Services Unit and Crisis Negotiators were activated and responded as well, police said.

The man surrendered to authorities peacefully and was transported to Danbury Hospital for evaluation at approximately 8 a.m. and the lockdown was lifted, police said.
