Letter to the Editor: American Cancer Society

You might ignore cancer research right up until you hear the words, "You have ...."

Dear Editor:   It’s often far too easy to underestimate the importance of cancer research…until you hear the words “you have cancer.” Those three words can make all the difference between simply absorbing news about developments in cancer research and truly appreciating the power of what scientists like those funded by the American Cancer Society do each and every day.

In June, residents in Norwalk and Stamford will have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to enroll in the American Cancer Society’s third Cancer Prevention Study which seeks to help us better understand the influences that cause or prevent cancer.

You are cordially invited to a one-hour learning opportunity about the American Cancer Society’s cancer-research study that will ultimately help researchers better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer.

The goal of this kick off opportunity is to help the Society get the word out and encourage local residents to participate in the Cancer Prevention Study (CPS3) during the upcoming June enrollment set for June 13 at Norwalk Health Department; June 18 at Stamford Government Center and the New Canaan YMCA; June 19 at the American Cancer Soceity Regional Center; June 20 at Stamford Hospital and June 21 at the Tully Health Center.

Full training is provided.  More information is available at www.cancer.org/cps3.    Remember: Research being done today will help ensure future generations never have to hear those dreaded three words.

We look forward to seeing you there!   Sincerely, Michelle Wolf, CT Vice President Health Initiatives, American Cancer Society 38 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT Phone: 203-563-1505 Email: michelle.wolf@cancer.org
