Is Your Neighborhood On The List? Mayor Alves Releases 5-Year Danbury Paving Plan

DANBURY, CT — Mayor Roberto Alves has released a five-year road improvement and citywide paving plan, outlining priorities for maintaining and upgrading 15 miles of city roads each year.

Alves said making the plan public reflects his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the use of taxpayer dollars.

“Residents deserve to know how infrastructure decisions are made and how their tax dollars are being invested,” Alves said in a statement. “By sharing this information, we are delivering on our promise of real infrastructure improvements and increased transparency.”

The city’s Public Works Department conducts an annual road condition assessment each spring, categorizing roads as critical or high priority. The list is subject to change based on weather, wear and other factors.

Danbury maintains 244 miles of city-owned roads. The 15-mile annual paving target is the maximum the department can handle in a single construction season, according to Alves. Improvements may include milling, reclaiming, cape sealing, drainage work and ADA upgrades.

Funding comes from multiple sources, including a $49 million Public Safety & Infrastructure Bond approved by voters in November 2024, a $3 million state grant and other capital allocations.
