Mayor Mark Boughton Declares Danbury a 'Purple Heart City'
The dedication of the combat wounded parking spaces will take place on Aug. 7, 2016 at the Danbury War Memorial.
DANBURY, CT — Mayor Mark Boughton will officially declare the City of Danbury a Purple Heart City with a proclamation at the dedication of combat wounded parking spaces located at the Danbury War Memorial, Boughton's office said in a statement.

The proclamation will be given to John Kwiatkowski, the State Commander for The Military Order of the Purple Heart at the event which takes place on Sunday, August 7, 2016, Purple Heart Day, at 11 a.m.
“The City of Danbury strongly supports its military population,” said Mayor Boughton. “We appreciate the sacrifices our Purple Heart recipients have made in defending our freedoms. It is important for us, as a community, to acknowledge them for their courage and show them the honor and support they have earned.”

Danbury resident Lee Teicholz spearheaded the event. His father William received two Purple Heart medals for wounds he received in France and Germany during World War II.
The Purple Heart medal is awarded to members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded or paid the ultimate sacrifice in combat with a declared enemy of the United States of America.
