Obituary: Lillian Francis Carreira, 86, Of Danbury

Deepest condolences to Liliian's family and friends.

Lillian (Francis) Carreira, 86, of Danbury, Connecticut, and North Branford, Connecticut, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Yale - New Haven Hospital after a short illness.

Known to friends as "Lil," Lillian was born in Danbury on November 28, 1930, the daughter of Henry and Esmeralda Francis. She attended local schools.She was married to her childhood sweetheart, Arnold B. Carreira for 58 wonderful years. Lillian and Arnold enjoyed spending spring, summer, and fall in Connecticut and then wintering in St. Petersburg, Florida. They also enjoyed many fine cruises over the years, including one to Alaska and another through the Panama Canal and into the Pacific Ocean.

Lillian worked at Family and Children Aid as a secretary and eventually as Business Manager. After thirty years, she retired while still young and began to enjoy life more by devoting much of her time to her family, friends, and interests.

Lillian also enjoyed assisting Arnold cooking meals for her family and friends. They were especially accomplished at making delicious Portuguese dishes such as cod fish balls, fried octopus, shrimp and pea pods, and a clam boil.

She is survived by her son Gregory Carreira and his partner of 37 years, Richard Dlugos, of Durham, CT, both of whom she loved dearly. Lillian especially loved spending time playing with their dog Casey and worrying about her son while he was away on exotic trips.

She is also survived by her sister, Delmira (Francis) Pina, and her husband, Joseph Pina, of Boca Raton, Florida; their son, Robert Pina, his wife Christine, and their triplets, Bobby, Michael, and Melissa and her husband Kristopher Kardok, all of Parkland, Florida. Family was very important to Lillian and she was very close to them all, especially the triplets who thought of her as another grandmother.

A private Interment will be at St. Peter Cemetery in Danbury.The family requests that donations be made to Family and Children Aid, 75 West Street, Danbury, Connecticut 06810 or a charity of one's choice.
