Park Ave. Kindergarten Teacher M. Jane Ryan, 83, Passed Away

Upon her retirement Mrs. Ryan was appointed by Mayor Gene Eriquez to the Danbury School Readiness Council.

DANBURY, CT — M. Jane Ryan, 83, of Danbury, CT passed away on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Maplewood of Danbury after a brief illness.

Jane was born in Danbury to the late J. Lawrence and Mary Daragan Ryan. She attended St. Peter School and was a 1950 graduate of Danbury High School. She received her BS from University of St. Joseph (formerly St. Joseph College) in W. Hartford, where she was awarded the 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award. She received her Masters and 6th Year Certification from Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT.

A Kindergarten teacher in the Danbury Public School System for 43 years, Jane retired in 1997. She taught at Park Avenue School and, most recently, at King Street Primary. Upon her retirement she was appointed by Mayor Gene Eriquez to the Danbury School Readiness Council. She also served on the Promise for Children Initiative.

Jane was a lifelong member of St. Peter Church, a 57 year member of Delta Kappa Gamma (Iota Chapter), the Danbury-New Fairfield Women's Club and its Educational Committee.

Survivors include her sister, Marita Ryan of Danbury and Art Amacher. Her cousins: Louann Daragan, Thomas Daragan, Robert Daragan, Alice Cherniske, Peter Ryan and Richard Ryan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 10:30am at St. Peter Church, Danbury with the Rev. Gregg Mecca, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
