Danbury City Council Ward 7: December 2023-present
Why are you seeking this office?
I'm the incumbent since December 2023. I'm part of a team of Democrats supporting Mayor Alves who have accomplished a lot in this session. Hiring 38 police officers, 32 firefighters, renewed the professional firefighters 4 year contract, completed 3 overdue audits, opened a new high school to relieve overcrowding, passed the lowest tax increase in Fairfield County (below inflation) and secured a bond to complete years of overdue road paving and build a West Side fire station for professional firefighters. We believe that government can work to improve the lives of all citizens and hope to continue our work in this endeavor.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
Public safety in our community, including increasing police officers and firefighters, building a new West Side fire station, controlling excessive speed on the streets and enforcing and expanding ordinances to diminish so-called illegal apartments (2-family units converted to boarding houses and similar violations). I will continue to support all of these issues that we accomplished in this session.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
Before 2023, Danbury had 22 years of Republican administrations. The schools became overcrowded due to excessive development. The roads were not paved in a timely manner. City and school audits were not completed. Police and fire departments were understaffed. We have turned all that around and will continue this progress in the next term.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
We intend to follow up on the illegal apartment situation, pass a City and Town Development Act to explore projects to revitalize and develop the city in a responsible way, and look at ways to improve the safety of our roads.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
All of the successes of our administration that I have listed above are examples of the team we've put together including the Mayor, his staff and our Council to effectively bring the city forward in a positive direction.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
My father always told me to finish all the projects I started, and I intend to do so in my efforts to support the city.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I support Mayor Alves and his agenda to improve the city.
