Saturday Double Header: Clean City, Friends Book Donations

It's a great Saturday in Danbury. The city will accept most bulky household waste from 8 a.m. to noon today at five spots around the city. The Friends of the Danbury Library are accepting books for their book sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"I've been coming for two or three years. It's a great thing," said Rocky Hyde of Danbury. "Otherwise you'd find all of this stuff on the side of the road."

About 53 cars were lined up at the PAL building on Hayestown Road by 8 a.m., and the volunteers running the site had already cleared seven cars and trucks.

The city has dumpsters at five locations this year where people can throw away those items they meant to throw away all year, but never made it. You know, the mattress in the basement. The extra couch. The fence you cut down, but didn't throw away.
