Scam Alert: Fake Eversource Representatives Victimizing Business Owners

The Danbury police department received several complaints from area business owners of scammers claiming their power will be cut. BREAKING

DANBURY, CT — The Danbury Police Department said they have been receiving an increase in complaints regarding a scam involving Eversource Electric. The scam involves mostly businesses in the Danbury are that are receiving phone calls from a person who states they are representatives from Eversource Electric.

The police said that the caller goes on to state that the electricity to the business will be shut off immediately if payment is not made. Police said the caller instructs the victim to purchase prepaid gift cards such as Green Dot or I-Tunes gift cards and give the scammer the pin numbers of the cards. 1. Eversource representatives NEVER ask for instant payment in person or over the phone.

2. Eversource representatives DO NOT require the use of pre-paid debit cards (such as Green Dot Money Pak or I-tunes).
3. Customers who are scheduled for disconnection due to nonpayment receive written notice via the U.S. mail which includes the actions they can take to maintain service.
