Special Weather Statement Issued For Danbury Area

The special statement was issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday afternoon.

INLAND SECTIONS OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY — The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement as strong storms are moving through the area.

"...A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of northern Fairfield, northeastern Westchester and eastern Putnam Counties through 230 PM...At 146 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Brewster, moving northeast at 20 mph....Winds in excess of 40 mph and half inch hail....Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible."

This strong thunderstorm will be near:
Brewster around 155 PM EDT.
Danbury and New Fairfield around 220 PM EDT.
Brookfield around 225 PM EDT.

"If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building," the weather service wrote. "Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle."


A flood advisory is in effect until 3:30 p.m. Wednesday for Fairfield County.

"Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected....Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas."

"At 205 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen."

Some locations that will experience flooding include:
Stamford, Norwalk, Danbury, White Plains, Port Chester, Ossining, New Canaan, Rye, Tarrytown, Mount Kisco, Dobbs Ferry, Mahopac, Nyack, Tappan, Brewster, Greenwich, Harrison,
Ridgefield, Darien and Bethel.
