The deal between the city of Danbury and Winters Brothers Carting will go to voters at a public hearing that will be scheduled for August.
The agreement, as approved so far by Winters Brothers and Danbury, gives Danbury $1 per ton per month for trash moved through the city.
The theory behind the payment is that Danbury roads are punished by the trucks hauling trash, so the city should be compensated for hosting the transfer station on White Street. Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton said over the last four months, the number of tons moving through the transfer station vary between 8,000 tons and 11,000 tons.
"We're turning trash into cash," Boughton said.
The Danbury City Council agreed on Tuesday to hold a public hearing on the agreement, and to create a Solid Waste Authority that would oversee the trash agreement and to give people a place to make complaints about the transfer station. That authority doesn't exist, but the City Council will take it up in August or September.
