Upcoming Danbury Job Fair for Veterans, Potential Employers
Job Fair will include information and workshops for U.S. veterans and employers interested in hiring former servicemembers.
Resuming a regular routine, finding a new job, or picking up an interrupted career can be difficult, especially after returning from military service. The Danbury Veteran’s Career Fair, to be held May 19 at the Ethan Allen Hotel, can assist veterans as they transition back into the workforce.
The Career Fair will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ethan Allen Hotel, 21 Lake Extension and is co-sponsored by the Connecticut Department of Labor — a partner of the American Center Network Job — Town Square Media, the City of Danbury and the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce.
Jobseekers who attend will be able to meet with potential employers, find out about veterans’ benefits and learn more about the wide range of related services offered by the Connecticut Department of Labor. This is also a great recruitment opportunity for employers who will be able to meet one-on-one with a ready pool of potential employees.
“Veterans learn a wide variety of trades while serving in the military and possess skills that are easily transferrable, making them valuable candidates to employers upon discharge,” notes State Labor Commissioner Sharon M. Palmer. “Employers have always been impressed with the caliber of talent our vets bring to the workplace and this event gives companies an opportunity to meet face to face with hundreds of well-qualified employees.”
Participants planning to attend the Danbury Veteran’s Career Fair will also want to take note of two special highlights:
- A special informational workshop about Connecticut’s Unemployed Armed Forces Member Subsidized Training and Employment Program (Step Up) program, which provides wage incentives to employers who hire unemployed veterans, will be offered.
- Certified Professional Résumé Writers from the Connecticut Department of Labor will be present throughout the day to review and critique jobseeker résumés to help ensure that they effectively showcase their accomplishments and transferable skills.
The registration fee for employers wishing to exhibit at the Danbury Veteran’s Career Fair is $475 and includes a skirted table, company sign, listing in the program guide and extensive advertising prior to the event. There is an additional $25 fee if electricity is needed.
