Copper Materials Swiped From Two Post Road Locations
The estimated value of the stolen metal was $4,250.

Significant quantities of copper wire and pipe were reported stolen from two Post Road locations last week, according to Darien police.
The first incident occurred at 397 Post Rd., where a vacant commercial property is being converted into a residential complex known as Garden Homes.
On Thursday, a company installing electrical fixtures at the site told police that 9 large coils of copper wire had gone missing.

The sections—each about 50 feet long and weighing over 100 pounds—had been dropped off Sept. 10 and stored in a basement unit facing Post Road. The total value of the wire was estimated at $4000.
Police said there were no signs of forced entry but that 25 to 30 workers had been on site each day for the renovations. Burglars may have also gained access to the space via an unlocked window.

The second incident occurred in a small "house-like building" at 599 Post Road, according to Capt. Fred Komm. Around 9:40 a.m. Friday, a caretaker reported that about 110 feet of copper pipe had been stripped from the baseboard, furnace, and other portions of the structure.
Though the unit had been unoccupied "for years," the caretaker typically conducted a check on it every Friday. Because he recently took a vacation, however, he had last entered the space Sept. 3.
The value of the stolen metal was estimated at $250 dollars.
