A Bridgeport man was arrested in Darien when an officer traveling along I-95 allegedly spotted the man swerving around the road.
According to Det. Mark Cappelli, an officer traveling northbound on I-95 in the area of Exit 12 witnessed a blue Volkswagon Golf swerve out of the far left lane and into the shoulder of the road, then across its original lane and into the middle lane, then back into the far left lane again.
The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop and conversed with the driver, identified by police as Tony Blackman, 47, of 305 Parrot Avenue, who allegedly told police he'd been drinking at a party in Stamford. Cappelli said the registration Blackman was carrying and the plates on the car did not match the vehicle he was operating. He also had no license or insurance, according to the detective.
The officer allegedly detected an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and conducted a field sobriety test, which Cappelli said Blackman failed. After taking Blackman into custody, an inventory of the vehicle allegedly turned up a "green, leafy substance" in paper neat the front passenger seat, two cigars, and a bottle containing a mixture of lemonade and vodka.
Blackman allegedly admitted to the green, leafy substance being marijuana and Cappelli said, while being processed, an additional bag of marijuana was found in Blackman's shoe.
Blackman was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, improper stopping or turning signal lamps, failure to drive right, use of drug paraphernalia, possession of less than half-an-ounce of marijuana, improper markers or registration, failure to register a motor vehicle and failure to insure a motor vehicle. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond and issued a court date of July 15.
