Darien Field Hockey Registration Deadline Approaching

Hey Darien, if you know a youngster looking to play field hockey for the 2013 Fall season, the deadline to register is fast approaching! You only have until July 15 to sign up, so get to it.

The Darien Field Hockey Association was established by Kelly Vegliante, the 2010 National Junior Field Hockey Coach of the Year who has more than 13 years of experience under her belt and who acts as the director of the Fairfield County United Field Hockey Club. Previously, she was as assistant coach at Fairfield University.

The season begins in August for boys and girls entering third grade through eighth grade.

"The philosophy of Darien Field Hockey is to develop each player in terms of athletic skill, sportsmanship, team work and positive self-image," the DFHA said in a release. "The program will consist of week day practices, weekend scrimmages and an end of year tournament. [Fifth through eighth] grade teams play intra-league games and travel to neighboring towns. Older players are placed on teams based upon skill level and there are no cuts."

Registration is still possible after July 15, but there is a late fee penalty of $50. Players should head to DarienFieldHockey.com to register, or contact Vegliante at DarienFieldHockey@gmail.com with questions.
