Darien Woman Accused Of Stealing $9K In Clothing From Store In Westport: Police
Westport authorities began investigating the case in March.

WESTPORT, CT — A 37-year-old Darien woman was arrested last week on a warrant by Westport police in connection with the theft of more than $9,000 worth of merchandise from the high-end clothing store, Mitchell's, according to authorities.
Caroline Montanus was charged with third-degree larceny, a felony, in the case, which is alleged to have occurred at the Post Road East store on March 14.
According to Westport Police Capt. Eric Woods, store officials told police that a woman had entered the retailer, took several items to a dressing room and then exited the dressing room and quickly left the store.

Investigators later connected the incident to a similar theft at another store in another town. That town is believed to be Greenwich, where Montanus is also facing a third-degree larceny charge. Additionally, Montanus is also facing a misdemeanor fifth-degree larceny charge out of New Canaan, according to court records.
With the help of video surveillance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies, police identified Montanus as the suspect.
Montanus was arrested on May 9 by Greenwich police on the active warrant and transported to Westport, where she was formally charged.
She was released after posting bond on bail of $50,000, and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on May 23.
