DARIEN, CT — Hay Island, an 18-acre private island in Darien that features unobstructed views of Long Island Sound and an 8,684-square-foot New England colonial home, has been listed for sale at $35 million.
The island represents the last bit of property owned by the Ziegler family, who sold Great Island to Darien in early 2023.
According to the property listing from Sotheby's International Realty - Greenwich brokerage, the Zieglers have owned the waterfront sanctuary for over a century.

The island is accessible off Long Neck Point Road, with the north shore facing Great Island in Ziegler's Cove.
Protected by a rocky shoreline and shaded by mature trees, the island also includes a dock, two-bedroom guest house, spa, and a pool house with a kitchenette and full bathroom, the listing notes.

The three-story home was designed by architect Mac Patterson of Austin Patterson Disston and built in 2010, the listing says. It has six-bedrooms, seven-bathrooms along with magnificent millwork, high-end finishes and six fireplaces.
Outside, there is an infinity-edge pool that overlooks one of two sandy beaches. The property also has lush lawns, a garden, a freshwater pond and winding paths leading to different private vantage points looking out to the water.
