Overhead: Helicopter to be Used for Power Line Survey in Darien

Eversource is conducting the survey this week, according to police.

Darien Police are advising residents that as part of an ongoing effort to strengthen the power grid and increase reliability, Eversource will be using a helicopter to survey its transmission lines with high-resolution cameras this week.

According to the police announcement, “All flights are weather permitting and most will take place between the hours of 7 a.m. and dusk” all week, beginning Monday. On their Facebook page, police also said, “Please don’t call the Police Department to report it.”

The helicopter assigned to this project is black with a registration number N175JL.

In addition to Darien, the flights will also take place in Greenwich, Norwalk, Stamford, and Westport.

Photographs collected during these flights will help build a more detailed record of structures, lines and other electrical equipment which will increase the efficiency of maintaining the electric system in Connecticut.
