Affidavit: Burglary Suspect, A Career Criminal, Left ID in Stolen Car
Authorities charged Derek Pierini, 29, formerly of Middlefield, with multiple counts this week for his alleged role in a rash of residential burglaries Durham, Middletown, Haddam and Killingworth.

One of the suspects arrested earlier this week for his alleged role in an area wide burglary spree was arrested in January by Glastonbury Police after leaving a backpack with his personal belongings in a stolen car, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
Derek Pierini, 29, of Hartford, was charged on Jan. 28 with third degree burglary, first degree larceny and second degree criminal mischief.
Pierini, a former Middlefield resident who has been incarcerated since the arrest,Β was charged Tuesday for his alleged involvement in five burglaries in Haddam and Killingworth between November 2012 and January 2013.
According to the affidavit, Pierini broke into a home on Glastonbury Hunt Road in Glastonbury on Jan. 10. After stealing about $18,000 worth of jewelry and electronics and $3,500 in cash from the home, Pierini stole a 1991 Pontiac Trans Am, the affidavit says.
The vehicle was later recovered in Hartford and according to police, a backpack inside of the car contained Pierini's Connecticut ID card, several letters addressed to him and two stolen cameras.
At the time of all of the burglaries, Pierini was on probation following his conviction for a burglary inΒ Durham in 2008. According to court records, Pierini was convicted of the crime in 2012 and given a three-year suspended prison sentence and two years probation.
Pierini, however, stopped complying with terms of his probation in November, according to the affidavit, around the time the burglaries began.
Perini's criminal past dates back to 2003, when he was convicted of breach of peace following an incident at UConn's Spring Weekend.
