Crash, Vehicle Fire Leaves 1 Dead In Middlefield

A crash and vehicle fire killed a person in Middlefield on Wednesday night, according to fire officials.

MIDDLEFIELD, CT β€” A person is dead following a vehicle crash and fire in Middlefield late Wednesday night, according to a statement from the Middlefield Volunteer Fire Co. A 911 call made at 11:15 p.m. reported a vehicle fire off of Miller Road.

The Middlefield Volunteer Fire Co. and Connecticut State Police responded to the call. Responders arrived to find a vehicle on fire about 20 feet off the road, next to the Apple Nine Golf Course.

While firefighters were extinguishing the blaze, they found a person in the car who was deceased. It is believed that the vehicle was involved in an accident, veered off the road, and struck a tree.

No one else was found in the surrounding area, and there were no witnesses to the crash.

The crash is under investigation. The name of the victim has not been released.
