Durham Man Drove Up To 137MPH In Rural Areas; Posted Footage Online: State Police

Videos and reels of speeding vehicles on rural Connecticut roads were posted to a social media account, according to police.

CONNECTICUT β€” A Durham man is accused of driving up to 137 miles per hour in Durham, Haddam and Killingworth, and state police say they caught him because videos of his driving were posted on his social media account.

Giovanni Petruzziello, 27, of Durham, was charged Monday with seven counts of reckless driving and three counts of second-degree reckless endangerment.

The Durham Resident Troopers Office learned about the social media account on May 7, according to state police.

The account included videos and reels of vehicles β€œdriving at high rates of speed recklessly in rural areas,” police said.

State police say they tracked the social media account to Petruzziello.

According to police, the account featured footage of Petruzziello operating various vehicles in Durham, Haddam, and Killingworth at speeds ranging from 78 to 137 miles per hour. The videos also show there was a passenger in the vehicle, police said.

State police secured an arrest warrant, which they served on Petruzziello on Monday during a traffic stop.

Petruzziello is due to appear in Superior Court in Middletown on June 5.
