  1. When did your business open? May 2017
  2. How did you come up with the name? I struggled with a name but decided on Magna Bookkeeping Services because Magna means “great” and I aim to provide “great” bookkeeping services for all my clients.
  3. Why start a business in this town? Durham is my home town! I’ve been here for 20 years. I’ve raised my kids here and I love being part of this community. Plus there are lots of small hometown businesses here. I’m sure there are plenty that could use some help with their bookkeeping.
  4. What business are you in? I provide virtual bookkeeping services for small to medium sized businesses. The accounting software I use is cloud based, therefore I’m able to provide service for anyone, anywhere in the United States. I specialize in QuickBooks Online and I’m a certified Pro Advisor.
  5. What’s the most difficult challenge you’ve faced starting a new business? Finding the small business owners that need my services. They are out there and there’s a huge demand for bookkeeping but getting the word out has been my biggest obstacle.
  6. What’s one highlight you've had since opening? The highlight for me with every client is being able to straighten out their books and help them understand the health of their business. Sometimes clients come to me with books that haven’t been started yet, years of clean up work, or they just simply don’t have the time anymore to keep up with it and want to concentrate on what they do best, running their business. That’s when I step in and save the day. It feels great to help. It’s what I love the most about what I do!
  7. How does your business give back to the community? Being that this is a new start up, I haven’t had the opportunity to give back yet but Magna Bookkeeping Services will be sponsoring a community youth program in district 13 in the very near future.
