Durham Officials to Propose 7.78 Percent Budget Increase Tonight

The town's finance board will hold a public hearing on its $6.40 million 2013-2014 budget proposal at 8 p.m. at Coginchaug High School.

Durham's board of finance will hold a public hearing Monday night on the 2013-2014 proposed town budget.

Town officials have spent the past several months crafting the $6.40 million spending plan, which is a 7.78 percent increase over current spending.

Under the proposal, taxes would increase by about $116 for homeowners with a home assessment value of $200,000, according to First Selectman Laura Francis. The figure does not include the impact of the school budget.

The budget includes additional spending on State Police in the amount of $22,000, or the equivalent of 60 shifts for such areas as traffic enforcement, DUI and crime prevention and investigation.

Other additions to the proposed budget can be found here.

The public hearing begins at 8 p.m. at the Coginchaug High School auditorium.
