Former Powder Ridge Owner Dies

Memorial services for the late Middlefield resident Kenneth Leavitt will be on Jan. 11.

The former owner of the Powder Ridge Ski Resort has passed away.

Kenneth Leavitt, of Sherborn, Mass., died Dec. 17, according to his obituary

Leavitt lived in Middlefield until as recently as 2012. He owned and operated Powder Ridge from 1996 to 2006, when he lost the property to foreclosure. 

He later moved to Massachusetts where he attempted to open a zip line course in the town of Norton, a proposal that was fought by some local residents.

According to his obituary, "Ken's true passion was for the outdoors and his desire was to unite families through adventures in nature. At the time of his death he was developing two aerial treetop adventure courses here in Massachusetts. He enjoyed hiking, kayaking, snowboarding and boating on Lake Winnepesaukee. Ken was dedicated to the practice of Transcendental Meditation (TM), he and his wife studied with Maharishi and became TM teachers."

Leavitt is survived by three children and his wife, Christine Leavitt. Services will be held at Pilgrim Church located at 25 South Main St. Sherborn, MA, at 11 a.m. on Sat, Jan. 11, 2014.
