Guitar and Bass Students Wow At Perk

Perk on Main came alive on Thursday, Feb. 7, when a showcase of student talent was presented from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Guitar and bass students of all ages gathered their courage to perform in front of a restaurant packed with family, friends, and restaurant patrons who came to see the performers and hear a variety of musical styles.

Susan Peak, instructor at Studio Blue Guitar of Durham, organized the event to give her students the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience.

“Preparing for the showcase gives students a goal to work toward and incentive to help perfect the songs they’re working on.” Peak said. “It also teaches them what to do in front of an audience if things don’t go perfectly, which is a valuable skill for any performer”.  

Each student performed 1-2 songs, with some even doing their own singing; others were accompanied by Peak on vocals and sometimes bass guitar and electronic drums.

Peak’s friend and guitar student Randy Whitehouse provided sound equipment and mixing for the event. “We rocked Perk!” one student commented.

The event, which occurred one day before the February 8^th blizzard, brought smiles to faces in the audience and satisfaction to the performers. Congratulations to the hard working students for a job well done!
