'Long Disruption' Along Route 147 Begins
The Department of Transportation has started its pre-construction phase of rebuilding a narrow bridge along the highway, a project that is scheduled to last two years.

Pre-construction is underway along Route 147 in Middlefield where the state's Department of Transportation is getting ready to rebuild an aging bridge.
Construction on a new bridge is expected to begin on April 1, but on Thursday tree crews spent the day clearing an area along the highway just south of Lyman Orchards to get ready for the project.

The project is scheduled to last two years and will cause a long disruption to drivers who use the highway to get to Durham or the shoreline, as well as bus drivers, Middlefield First Selectman Jon Brayshaw recently said.
According to the state, the highway will remain open to one lane of traffic for the duration of the project.
