Lyman Orchards' Sunflower Maze Opens Today

$1 from every visit supports the Connecticut Children's Medical Center.

Lyman Orchards' Sunflower Maze officially opens today.

Visitors are invited to 'Get Lost' among the 350,000 yellow and red sunflowers in the maze, the only one of its kind in Connecticut.

"There’s almost nothing more breath-taking than standing in a field of sunflowers looking around at the beautiful scenery of the orchard,” said John Lyman III, executive vice president of Lyman Orchards.

The maze is open daily from 9-5 p.m, weather permitting. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 4-12 and free for children 3 years and under. Visitors can save $1 per ticket by ordering online at lymanorchards.com, using discount code: mazes.

"We felt it would be a great idea to design a roller coaster-themed maze. You can bet that this year’s maze, which is one of our most challenging designs ever, will be full of twists, turns and surprises to ensure you have a fun time," Lyman said.

$1 from every admission supports Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. To date, the sunflower maze has raised more than $35,000 for the Pediatric Cancer Unit at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

“Connecticut Children’s is very grateful to Lyman Orchards and their guests for their generosity,” said Caitlin Gadecki of Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Foundation. “Through the Sunflower Maze promotion we are able to increase awareness of the critical care that is provided each day at Connecticut Children’s while raising funds that will help to give children with cancer and blood disorders the care they deserve.”

The sunflower maze will also feature Buddy, that smart, fun and curious T-Rex from PBS’s Dinosaur Train. Visitors can see him on Saturday, August 3 starting at 10 a.m. (Rain date, Sunday August 4).

Tethered hot-air balloon rides will be available on Saturday, August 10 and 11 courtesy of RE/MAX. All monies raised from the hot air balloon rides are donated directly to Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Rides will be $5 per person and begin around 9 a.m. Rides are limited based upon weather conditions and fuel, and are determined solely by the RE/MAX pilot. Flights are limited to 4 people per basket and are available on a first come, first served basis.
