Middlefield Crews Respond To 2 Fires Sunday Night
One person was treated for smoke inhalation following two fires at Middlefield homes.
MIDDLEFIELD, CT β Firefighters responded to reports of two fires Sunday night. The first was at 8 p.m. when crews were dispatched for the reported deck fire at a Main Street home.
Firefighters found fire under a wood deck that ignited brush and was impinging on the deck attached to the home. Crews quickly contained and extinguished the fire.
Then at about 10 p.m., crews were dispatched again for a reported structure fire at a home on Cherry Hill Road. Firefighters found smoke showing and fire burning around an entryway.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish this fire and worked to ensure it did not extend to the other areas of the home.
One person was treated and transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation.

"We are proud of the fast response and the manpower that responded, which were able to minimize the damage on two fires that had the potential to be catastrophic," the fire department wrote on Facebook.
The two fires followed three severe motor vehicle accidents, one with fire, Friday evening.
The department's mutual aid partners responded for both incidents, including the Durham Volunteer Fire Company, Westfield Fire Department, and Killingworth Volunteer Fire Company. The City of Middletown Professional Firefighters Local 1073 provided station coverage for the second incident.
