Middlefield Manufacturer Plans Mass Layoffs, Will Close Facility

A manufacturer announced it will close its Middlefield facility in March.

MIDDLEFIELD, CT β€” A manufacturer is shutting down its Middlefield facility and will lay off 68 employees, according to documents filed with the state Department of Labor.

Emerson Commercial & Residential Solutions wrote that it will close its Cooper-Atkins manufacturing and distribution facility at 33 Reeds Gap Road and relocate jobs to other facilities in North America.

The terminations are planned to occur in three waves through March. The facility is projected to close March 31.

A few employees with the Middlefield facility will be retained as remote workers.

"Please understand the decision to close this facility was not made lightly and is the result of our review of operations to manage costs, maintain competitiveness, and provide the best possible service to our customers," Emerson wrote.

The company will provide severance packages based on each employee's length of service.
