I remember driving through Middlefield while house hunting almost 10 years ago. After driving by what I would learn was Peckham Park, I looked at my husband and said, βSo this is town? Thereβs not a lot going on around here.β On a hunch, we moved in.Β I would learn that no, we donβt have a fancy town adorned with all the bells and whistles. We have no iconic town green lined by Victorian homes.Β There is no pool, or elaborate community center with a state of art modern day amenities.Β We donβt have a lot of things that people would deem necessary these days.Β What we do have however, outweighs what we

may lack. After weeding through 400 photos or so tonight, it became clear that what we have in this town is far more special than something made of brick and mortar. Its people define Middlefield. I think of Middlefield adoringly as The Bad News Bears of towns.Β We have a town full of heart, full of New England resourcefulness, full of goodness. While weβre far from perfect, itβs somehow the perfect place to live. On a brilliant, blue-skied day, Old Homeβs Day was living proof that this town has what it takes to raise a community. I felt proud to live here today, seeing community groups, businesses, and schools together; itβs citizens both young and old sharing their best qualities with one another.Β Have a look at these pictures and ask yourself does one need more than this? Happy Old Homeβs Day Middlefield!
